A great date night in Phoenix doesn’t need a tasting menu. It needs three good stops close together and a budget you decided on before you left. Here are three complete routes for two people — a meal, a middle stop and a small finish — each coming in under $150 for the pair, with times and costs for every stop.
At a glance: Downtown (tacos, a live show, a glowing sculpture) · about $138 · Uptown (burgers, live blues, ice cream) · $105–135 · Old Town Scottsdale (wood-fired pizza, public art, a 1958 soda fountain) · $85–115. Costs are for two and include an estimate of about 30% for tax and tip on food and drinks.
1. Downtown: tacos, a live show and a sculpture that glows
Best on a Friday or Saturday when there’s a show on.
- 5:15 pm — Taco Chelo, 501 E Roosevelt St. An art-filled taqueria on Roosevelt Row. On the January 2026 menu, carne asada tacos are $3.75, costra tacos $4.25, fish tacos $5.25 and micheladas $9. Chips and guacamole, six tacos and two micheladas come to $51 before tax and tip. Cost for two: about $66.
- 6:30 pm — A show at Crescent Ballroom, 308 N 2nd Ave. A mid-size downtown club about 6 minutes’ drive away, with a parking garage across from the entrance. Fall 2026 general-admission tickets run $25–36 plus fees; doors are usually at 6 and shows at 7. Cost for two: about $72 with fees.
- About 9:15 pm — “Her Secret Is Patience” at Civic Space Park. Janet Echelman’s net sculpture floats 38 feet above the plaza and rises to more than 100 feet, lit to glow at night. The park, a 5-minute walk from the club, is open until 11 pm. Cost: free.
No show on? Walk the Roosevelt Row murals instead, then play vintage games at Cobra Arcade Bar (801 N 2nd St) — entry is always free, it’s 21+ and open until 2 am.
2. Uptown: burgers, live blues and ice cream
Built for a Saturday; check the club’s calendar for the night you go.
- 6:00 pm — Windsor, 5223 N Central Ave. A neighborhood restaurant with a backyard-style patio at Central & Camelback; you can book ahead. Listed burgers run about $17.50–20.50. Cost for two: about $50, or about $80 with a drink each.
- 7:45 pm — Live music at The Rhythm Room, 1019 E Indian School Rd. A blues and rock club turning 35 this month, about 8 minutes’ drive away. September shows run $20–30, with doors usually at 7 and music at 8; tickets are also sold at the door. Cost for two: about $40.
- About 10:15 pm — Churn, back at 5223 N Central Ave. Fresh ice cream, cookies baked daily and a wall of nostalgic candy in a 1940s brick building next to Windsor, open until 11 pm. Cost for two: about $15.
Make it cheaper: skip the show and browse Changing Hands Bookstore (300 W Camelback Rd), open until 10 pm Monday–Saturday. That brings the night to about $65–95.
3. Old Town Scottsdale: pizza, public art and a 1958 soda fountain
Everything is on foot, so park once.
- 5:30 pm — Craft 64, 6922 E Main St. A wood-fired pizzeria with Arizona craft beer, named a Top 50 Pizzeria in the USA by 50 Top Pizza six years running. Pizzas are listed from $19.50 to $26.50. Cost for two: about $60, or about $80 with a beer each.
- 7:00 pm — Scottsdale Civic Center. About 10 minutes’ walk east: Robert Indiana’s LOVE sculpture, The Yearlings, the City Hall lagoons and the lawns, open until 10:30 pm. Cost: free.
- 8:00 pm — Sugar Bowl, 4005 N Scottsdale Rd. A family-owned soda fountain since 1958 with a 10-seat counter. It’s open until 11 on weekends, but the kitchen closes at 9 — so arriving by 8 is the safe play. Cost for two: about $25–35.
Want some music? Rusty Spur Saloon (7245 E Main St) has live country music every night and is listed with no cover; a drink each adds about $20 and keeps you under $150.
Good to know
- Show nights change. Crescent Ballroom and The Rhythm Room book different acts every night — pick the date from their calendars first, then build the rest around it.
- Estimates, not receipts. Menu prices were checked in September 2026; drink prices at Windsor, Craft 64 and Churn aren’t published, so those are estimates.
